“TinEye is a reverse image search engine. You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions. TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks.”
Once they have scavenged enough of the web, this technology will mean you have no excuse for posting unattributed images anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if sites like Flickr/Tumblr/etc. make this part of their image uploading process with an “are you sure you don’t want to attribute this image to one of these sources?” prompt.
Also, I’m surprised Google hasn’t done this yet (though they are surely working on it, or will just buy these guys).
